Sea World Orlando is working on an expansion that will add new attractions to the marine park.
Although few details have been released yet, one park element that is definitely changing is the Penguin Encounter. The walk-through encounter, which displays several species of penguins, will close in December for 18 months. Speculation as to what will replace the area includes Antarctica, a themed area featuring penguins, or SnowWorld, an indoor “dark ride.”
SeaWorld is also redeveloping its Manatee Rescue attraction, which will in 2012. The redeveloped attraction supposedly features a circular theater and a new sea-turtle movie that ties in with the theatrical documentary released this past summer, changing the focus to include both manatees and sea turtles.
Discovery Cove, the high-end boutique park located next door to SeaWorld Orlando, plans to convert a saltwater reef area into a freshwater environment referred to as “Flooded Rainforest Trail.” Another name in the works is “Flooded Forest River Trails.”
