SeaWorld Orlando Shamu Show on Hiatus in Early 2014

A quick update for all of our Orlando vacation goers – SeaWorld Orlando will be closing Shamu Stadium for three months in 2014.

The closure is due to needed refurbishments. The main pool will be repainted, as well as new clear panels installed between the animals and the audience.  Visitors who are planning a vacation in Orlando in early 2014 should note the stadium closure will temporarily close the “One Ocean Show” at Shamu Stadium as well as place the “Dine with Shamu” experience on hiatus.  The closure will start in early January and end in early April.

Nick Gollattscheck, Sea World Orlando spokesman, said, “This is the first time we’ve had to pause shows during stadium maintenance, but it’s also the first time we’ve had to do this kind of maintenance…since the stadium opened in 1984.” He also said that the work isn’t due to any sort of safety concerns and no safety equipment will be changed during the downtime. “It’s maintenance that has to be done with no water in the pool.”

Shamu is one of SeaWorld’s biggest draws so they’ve developed a new experience to entice visitors.  Dubbed “Shamu Up Close,” the presentation will offer interactions both above and underwater and let guests see how training works.
