SeaWorld Orlando has announced a major expansion for its theme park, including a themed land known as Antarctica.
The two year expansion includes three major components. All three components were designed specifically for the Orlando theme park
and will not be seen at any other Sea World
The Antarctica land will incorporate a new ride, dining and merchandise, and have a design based on rugged, snowcapped mountain and a stony scene with featuring penguins. Details about the Antarctica ride remain under wraps, but it is known that it will be the coldest theme park attraction in the world and will follow the journey of a tiny penguin. The new area will be built in the Penguin Plaza section of the park. Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin is set to open in 2013.
Two new attractions are set to open in the Spring of 2012. TurtleTrek features a pair of aquariums, one with manatees and the other with sea turtles, plus a first-of-its-kind, domed, 3-D theater. Images of sea turtles will appear to swim around and above guests. A 360-degree movie experience, showcasing a film following the life of a female turtle, will be featured at the attraction. TurtleTrek will be located at the previous site of the Manatee Rescue attraction.
Also new next year is Freshwater Oasis, located at SeaWorld’s Discovery Cove. Guests can wade through a rain-forest spring as small marmoset monkey’s play in the canopy above them. Visitors will then enter a faux sinkhole and swim alongside Asian river otters. The area will include secluded, private beaches and a swim-up lounge named Flooded Terrace.
