We went to Westgate during Hurricane Irma paying top dollar for that. The apartment that they provided us was great. Unfortunately their staff was not prepared to provide answers or contingency plan for the hurricane at all (they would just provide a piece of paper with legal disclaimers). We also had a few problems in the room (fire alarm malfunctioning and making noise) and they took forever to replace. Also, a few employees spoke english...

"Beware! Beware!"

Westgate Lakes Resort (WLR) in Orlando is a bad joke! We evacuated here on 09.18.17 due to Hurricane Irma as part of a huge group of government employees from the Lower Florida Keys. We are talking well over 300 employees PLUS dependents. I do not know the exact monetary terms of the contract, but believe me, WLR made a tidy profit. One day after moving in the free wifi disappeared. ALL wifi disappeared! When I'd call their "IT" department, they acted like they had no clue what was wrong. In fact, it sounded like they just pulled some guy off the street and asked him to answer that phone. When I asked if it was a server problem or an issue with bridge he didn't know what a bridge was. Today is Friday, still no internet. When you evacuate for a disaster you'd like to have internet so you can get updates online, but nope, sorry WLR doesn't give a hoot about that. I know this is not an isolated incident because I read a lot of other reviews and many people mentioned ir. Everything at WLR is geared toward the members. I'd love to interview some of them and see what their satisfaction level is. There is mold in the shower stall. There is a hot tub in our room. The first night we decided we'd try it. Water pressure is horrible in it. It took well over an hour and a half for the tub to fill above the line of the water jets. Plus, you could not regulate the taps. You turned on the hot, then added the cold and suddenly it was ice water. You turned the cold tap down and then you were scalded. The tub is two feet high with no foot stool to assist you getting in. The top of the tub is a foot wide making it precarious to navigate. Attempting to exit the tub, I stood, sat on the edge, swung my leg over so I had both legs on the same side, missed the towel mat on the floor thereby slipping on the tile. (You cannot straddle it to get out if you're short like me because you can't reach the floor with your foot). I spent 4 hours in the ER the next morning. I had wrenched my neck, a huge goose egg on my head and my leg had to be in an immobilizer brace. Did I mention still no internet? Oh, and it's impossible to make a cellular call from your room! How ludicrous is that? I tried multiple times and each time I had to go outside to complete the call. When I asked "the IT guy" he said it was because there were so many wifi signals going out all around me that it interfered with cell calls". WHAT??? My husband is a satellite communications subject matter expert and he said he thinks they use some sort of jammer to interfere with calls. Not sure why you'd want to do that. Doesn't seem to be a Best Business Practice to me. This place is a horrible joke. If you are at a resort you expect everything to be top notch. This place is two-star IF THAT. The TV channels are crap. Out of 39 channels, 6 were in Spanish, 9 were local area-specific, 5 News, 4 Sports, 3 kids' channels, 1 local tourist attractions, 1 dedicated Walt Disney World, and the remaining 10 were the usual A&E, TNT, TBS, History, Discovery, etc. The Holiday Inn Express had a better line-up. There were 3 HBO channels but the picture on one was so grainy it was almost not viewable. Our unit, was old, outdated and had years and layers of dirt accumulated. Believe me when I say that glossy pictures posted are NOT what it looks like now. I would never recommend WLR to anyone.

Westgate hotels came up on bringfido.com as pet friendly. Needed to evacuate for Irma and this was the only Westgate with rooms. They made me get two rooms because they have a one pet per room policy. They would not change that even for the storm so I ended up paying twice what I would have. My dogs by the way are 18lbs each. The rooms we had were clearly the old ones that they do not use often. Sine all 2000 units were sold out due to the storm, these rooms were used. the AC was broken and the room was stifling hot. Called the front desk and got that working again. After driving in hours in traffic, I wanted to take a shower. Unfortunately, the shower door was stuck and I mean stuck. It is a glass shower door and I was afraid it would shatter so I called maintenance. It took them over an hour to fix the darn thing so I got in the shower close to midnight! I can't imagine when it was last used either because the thing was stuck tight. The next morning I went to use the coffee maker and there was a film of dust on the top. So again, who knows when the last time the room had been used or cleaned. Everything in the room seemed dirty and old and we were afraid to walk around the room barefoot. I even wore flip flops in the shower. Tried to find another hotel the next day but that was impossible.I cannot comment on much because we were pretty much stuck in the room the whole time we were there. It is not a place I would ever stay again unless it was the only place available again that would take dogs in the event of another evacuation. . .

The staff were polite. Our neighbors on the other hand were extremely loud all throughout the night. I'm not going to make this extremely long because I left a review of this place on Yelp. Pull out sofa was uncomfortable and the mattress was too small and too thin for the frame. There are places to eat on the premises. There are places to play on the premises. The best part of our stay was the mini bowling alley on the property- awesome.
