I had never stayed on the Disney property since I began going there in 1972 as a teenager. Through a travel agent we reserved the Art of Animation area for two rooms, one for my wife and one for my Adult Son and his family of 4 and sister-in-law. We were assigned two rooms in the little Mermaid area. We arrived as planned around 1 a.m. and were planning to use our Magic Bands to check in, but since I had never used them before I did stop in reception then went to the room. The room was about a 5-8 minute walk from the reception area and at that hour we could find no luggage cart and that was a long haul with heavy bags to arrive at the room and try both my Magic band and my wife's and discover neither worked. Two of the four worked for my son's room next door. After much back and forth we were let in our room and for our late night inconvenience were refunded our first night stay and offered an upgrade to a Family Suite for the next morning for a reasonable upgrade (after our refund it amounted to about a $200 increase. Since we were only in the Little Mermaid section overnight I can only give a limited impression of that area. As we entered the rooms from the exterior landing, a-la-Motel 6, we found the rooms to be extremely small, with two double beds and not much room to turn around let alone store anything, and no place to sit at a desk and work a laptop, etc. Bath was hard to turn around in, too. Very clean and modern looking, but I couldn't help feeling this was a dressed up and overpriced Motel 6. You are paying for being at a Disney property and the character theme decorations outside the buildings, and somewhat inside too, such as murals on the wall and some fixtures inside. But the outside of each area (we were first in the "Little Mermaid" area, then passed through the "Lion King" area that was amazing, to get to the "Cars" area, which was almost as impressive as it was decorated with life-sized cars from the movie and there was the filling station and hotel facade from the movie that was up to 3 stories high. Also, the pool was huge and separated into different, family-friendly sections and guarded by what must be the most alert, attentive and constantly moving lifeguards who were in sufficient number to certainly address any emergencies. There was a centralized cafeteria style restaurant, the "Landscape of Flavors" food court as well as a top notch retail shop and kids arcade in the same building as the front desk/reception/concierge area. Food was nicely prepared for modest prices and a good variety. You could buy anything from a Yogurt, or Cinnamon roll for breakfast to an omelette prepared to order for about $9 to a "BIg Breakfast" with scrambled eggs, 2 character waffles, and bacon for about $12. We ate at the parks for lunch and dinner but were able to make it well into the day after eating breakfast here and I scoped out lunch and dinner selections and they looked great. Our Suite in the Cars area was outstanding. We were quite thankful we acquired these rooms for the lower price as we discovered at the end of the stay (when we tried to extend, which is impossible, but we did not know that since we were new to this) that they jumped to a rack rate of appx $450 nightly at the end of the week as they have maybe 5 or 6 "seasons" with different rates and the "Seasons" do not relate to calendar seasons, but apparently high peak travel times of the year. The rooms open into a central area that contains a 4 person table that can fold down into a full size bed. And there is a living area and entertainment area beyond that in the same section. A nice feature is an LG or Philips input/output interface that allows you to connect to the TV via HDMI or component or VGA connections. Still in this section is a leather couch and it is decorated in Cars material as is the 4 person table I mentioned. Lamps inside and in the halls are upside-down racing cones from the movies. Also in the same area is a small refrigerator, sink and microwave oven (no oven was in the Little Mermaid room, or anything else like this). There was a full bath dedicated to this area. The couch opened into a full size bed too. To the left side of the room upon entering is a master suite, which was large enough to lay things out in and had the same TV input interface and a duplicate 42/43" flat panel, which we had no time to use the entire visit. This room had a nice sized dresser as did the center room, and had another full bath, this one with a shower, attached. The bath was quite large. The bed was not very comfortable, but the thick bedding helped. The only negative on this room was finding a small, 1/2" roach on the dresser in the master suite the last day. I hisd this from my wife as I knew she would want a new room and I was sure at this point there was no room available as I had been trying. I passed that on after I left so they could take care of it. This is Florida, and I grew up there in the 60's and 70's and certainly saw many more, larger ones during that time. There was no other sign during the entire visit of any other pests of any type and I would not let this stop me from returning. I would not pay the full rate for a return visit in the future, but I am going to try to return in the future at a non-peak time with the help of my travel agent, at a time I could afford the suite. If I was in my late 20's with young kids as I was in my first visit with my family in the 80's I would be fine in the Little Mermaid Suite as I spent as little time possible in the room. Another great benefit of being in the Art of Animation Resort is using the constantly running Disney busses that left at a minimum of 20 minute intervals and taking you to all parks and Disney Springs as soon as they opened, including the early hours available for hotel guests, as well as the late hours , they call all these "Magic hours". CELIAC INFO: I must also say the chef at the Landscape of Flavors is most excellent in working with persons with Celiac Disease. My wife had him prepare her a separately made breakfast each morning of omelette, or character waffles, etc. and all were good and she was never contaminated. All in all a very nice visit, but out of my normal price range as a retiree unless I can secure it at the right visiting time and package discount.

"Kids loved it"

We stayed in the Finding Nemo family suite with a 4 and 6 year old. They loved the theming in the rooms. We liked the separate bedroom and 2 bathrooms. We were in building 4 which is close to the pool and main building facilities. The furnishings are pretty basic but adequate. The refrigerator was large enough for the groceries we ordered which I was concerned about. The AoA transportation area is busy but we never waited very long for a bus. The quick service food at the resort is pretty good compared to other Disney resorts. There are plenty of choices and it is spacious. Yes it's busy, but we never waited long. The pool isn't great- no slides, crowded, cool,....but the kids still enjoyed it. I recommend the family suites for families with small kids. The extra space is worth it compared to a regular room. If you don't have kids, don't stay here. Go for a moderate or deluxe.

"Great Hotel"

Went with our three year old son and he loved it! We stayed in Little Mermaid room. The theming of the room was super cute and I loved the shower! The beds were comfortable. A bit of a walk to transportation and main hall but it wasn't too bad. Overall theming of resort was awesome. It's nice that this resort is connected to Pop Century. We used their busses back from the parks some nights and just walked across the bridge spice they seemed to have shorter lines. Wonderful stay and will definitely stay here again.

"GREAT for kids.. but not "wow" luxury .. GREAT value/budget option for families"

This is not a "wow" in quality or service.. but its great for families and kids. Huge resort with VERY COOL Disney themed statues all over.. kids will love it. Huge pools. This is a great option if you don't want to pay more money to stay closer to the parks. It's only 15-20 minutes by shuttle to the parks (included).. BUT long lines for shuttles. We wound up taking taxis 1/2 the time not to waste time. Taxi is about $15 to the park. Food is standard mass-production cafeteria food.. nothing fancy.. but fine for kids and families. Pools are crowded. Rooms are "okay". Nothing "wow". Kids will love them due to Disney pictures on walls. Overall.. nice resort.. would stay again with kids.. but only with kids. NOTE - property is huge and we had to do lots of walking to get to room from lobby/shuttles/food area.
