First time staying in the Animal Kingdom area at the WDW. This hotel is one of the kind that offers Africa theme and décor throughout. Hotel ground and rooms are well-kept just like other Disney Resorts. Staff are all very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and most of all, Disney bubbly! My family booked a savannah view room where we can see animals rooming around right at the balcony of our room. Unfortunately, due to the fact that it was the coldest time in the winter and the animals weren't too active as such, we only saw a handful. Still, it was an awesome experience staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

"Fabulous experience, average food."

Stayed for 4 days whilst visiting Disneyland. Loved the views from he balcony - giraffes every day. Spectacular and unusual. Great viewing spots for zebra and other antelope, etc. Flamingos and other marvellous birds to see. Hotel and grounds immaculate. Staff friendly and very helpful. Beds comfy and bathroom lovely and roomy. Nice coffee in room and useful free refill cups for sodas. Thought the food in Mara was ok but Boma overpriced and average. Paid $44 for my daughter (10 years so full price) to eat a small bowl of pasta with 3 meatballs and a cup of jungle juice! Am still smarting from that one! I suppose the restaurant caters for big appetites and is not suited for young kids smaller meal requirements. Would try another hotel next time.

We checked in on a Friday and out on Tuesday. This lodge was gorgeous and include countless pieces of African artifacts. Our room was located on the second floor with a savannah view where we sat and had our coffee and watched the giraffes, zebras and other wildlife from our balcony. The pool area was a bit of a let down from my expectations (I had pretty high hopes here) but was still very nice. I cannot stress how quiet this resort was, I swear I never heard a neighbor once. The place was clean as could be and the staff was very friendly. The only negative is that this resort is away from everything so a bus ride to or from the Magic Kingdom or Epcot is going to take a while but if you are looking for a very nice resort this should be added to your list.

"So much better than the last visit!"

I've been fortunate to visit Orlando many times and in the past, if I went to Animal Kingdom was the last park to visit as I just didn't enjoy it that much. I wanted rides not animals! However on this visit I was very pleasantly surprised. The Expedition Everest ride was great, the Kali River Rapids soaked us with water on a very hot day and I'd forgotten how good the Bugs Life 3d show was. Dinoland seemed to have a lot more going on with not only the rides but with the DJ and children's entertainment. Both my children took part in the limbo and hula hoop competitions which were a nice interlude from walking or queuing in the very hot heat. The Disney characters were out in force, around the park and we got lots of fab pictures. None of the queues to see them were too long which was also a bonus! We saw the Lion King show and it was fantastic - a 'must do' for future visits. I would recommend getting a Fast Pass for this attraction as the standby queue was about 40 minutes long. The only attraction that was a disappointment was the Jungle Book show. Its thirty minutes of Bollywood dancing with bits of the new Jungle Book film projected on to a water screen. Sadly the screens were not clear like in the Fantasmic show and often it was very hard to see. Even though our section of the theatre had waited nearly an hour to see the show many people around us left well before the end. I think Disney have made a big error with this show and as it has none of the normal 'Disney Magic'. Overall a great day in the park.

"Great, but not cheap."

Very good. Hotel quite large with a lot of walking if you are at the end of the corridor but great look to it and fantastic views of the animals in the grounds. Good sized pool with a small water slide and a small bar. Food wise you have the Mara cafe which is for breakfast and lunch, Boma which is buffet style dinner, and Jiko which is the upmarket more expensive option. Mara is ok for quick pizza type flatbreads and the various breakfast options, can get a bit busy. Boma I liked but the family found the food a little adventurous. Jiko we all loved . Great food, up to real london dining out, relaxed atmosphere and a good wine selection. If you see Ian at the bar or Onsy serving say hello, had two very good nights in there. From the hotel you can get all the usual buses to the disney parks. Try the drum tuition session in the foyer.
