My husband, myself, son, his wife and two children ages 5 and 20 months just returned from Florida after staying for two weeks at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Firstly, we have stayed at the AK Lodge several times in previous years, and have been coming to Disney since the early 80s....but sadly, the service and standards have deteriorated in so many ways. The interconnecting rooms were very good with lovely Savannah views loads of animal activity, but the housekeeping was appalling. On three occasions we had to ask for toiletries and extra towels etc. On two occasions the rooms were not done until we had to call down to housekeeping as we had been forgotten! The state of the floors was bad (crumbs from cereal etc left and not cleaned up and litters left on sink areas., and could have done with daily vacuuming. The mirrored door in our bathroom was so dirty I cleaned it myself with a facecloth! I was fearful of complaining during our stay, in case the maids were to seek revenge by using our toothbrushes to clean the toilet etc!, but I did complain at the end of our stay and we were given a soft toy in compensation for the children. A reduction in the bill would have been much nicer, but not really likely! My husband and I usually stay at the Grand Floridian which I must say, has in the past, (as was last year) been faultless! On this vacation however, we thought the children would like the more relaxed atmosphere and it would be fun and nice to see the animals daily. However, in regards to the maid service, not once, did we get the towel animals on our beds, nor did we get the room tidied of litters and the room *prettified* as in the past...toys arranged on beds and toiletries organised etc). The manager did express their apologies for the problems with housekeeping and said they were experiencing *difficulties* so draw your own conclusions here. On the whole, the hotel is a lovely, vibrant and welcoming place to stay, but standards on all levels are dropping IMHO. I would however, recommend it happily, but do make sure you complain if you are unhappy with the housekeeping as they do try and sort out problems, if they can. Lastly, the rooms can be situated a very long way from the lobby and are a bit if a trek in the rush to get out in the mornings! Try to avoid rooms near the lifts and the laundry as they can be noisy! Have fun! Enjoy Disney it's worth the visit.
Have stayed here twice and loved it both times; ALWAYS get a room with a Savanna view, there are lots of animals (wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, etc) and they can roam right up under your balcony, very cool. The resort itself is gorgeous, very steeped in African theming from the moment you walk into the lobby, and with excellent dining options in Boma and Jiko (in Jambo House) as well as Sanaa (in Kidani Village). Also, for all of the complainers about things such as distance to other parks, length of hallways, dark decor, etc, YES it is a fair distance to the rest of the World (this is a true resort folks, not Six Flags or Cedar Point, Disney World is huge but has MUCH more to offer) and yes the decor is dark wood but that is because Disney specializes in phenomenal theming so if the hotel is African themed then it will be very African themed, which in this case is awesome! Try the Club Level accommodations as well, it is worth it, we loved our stay and you will too!

The resort is still beautiful and well kept with very enjoyable views of the animals and some nice entertainment options. Sadly the service was not as good as our previous visit. From a delay in getting assistance with luggage upon arrival, to not being greeted when walking in and other issues it just wasn't as magical of an experience as before. We had a savannah view room with club level access and the Kilimanjaro club staff are the only ones that we can say that consistently provided excellent service even going out of their way to fix the problems caused by other departments. Our first day was full of frustration as we experienced problem after problem. We had to switch rooms and when we arrived to our new room we discovered a pile of dishes by the door left by the previous guest that had never been cleaned up, once inside we discovered ants on the nightstand, then the plastic plate over the door lock fell off and after 5 hours of waiting we still had not received the bed rails requested. Calls to front desk/maintenance and housekeeping were met with hold music while cast members were busy helping other guests, I don't like to spend so much money on vacation to waste time being on hold to remind them to fix a problem that was reported hours ago. A trip to the front desk with a list of issues gave us friendly service making phone calls on our behalf but no resolutions. In the end it took the help of the Kilimanjaro Club concierge making phone calls to the management of the different departments to get our issues addressed, by then it was almost 9pm and we just wanted to get our kids into bed, not a good start to our stay! Thankfully the rest of our stay went by a lot more smoothly. The Kilimanjaro Club staff was excellent helping us with plan changes, reservations, getting information about events and things to do and when none of the food items available in the lounge were safe for my son with multiple food allergies they would gladly get him something from the back that he could eat. Housekeeping didn't pay as much attention to detail as previous stays as they rarely did a very good job forgetting to take out some trash or replacing a towel or dirty glass. We constantly had dishes and food trays that were not ours, we guess left by our next door neighbor closer to our door than theirs that would sit on the hallway all day without being picked up, truly disgusting. Overall the resort is still very good and I would stay there again but not paying full price. The thing that I dislike the most about it is the location of the bus stops, after your feet are tired from all of the walking at the parks you have to walk up hill to get to the resort itself, not fun at all!

Me my husband, daughter and mum stayed here for a week in May and we loved it!!! The rooms were spacious with everything you could need-hair dryer, tea/coffee facilities lots of wardrobe space, toiletries and always cleaned to perfect condition. The views of the animals was something we will never forget and to wake up to that every day was breath taking! The transport to the parks were great and regular. We are at the buffet restaurant most days for breakfast and 1 night for dinner there was always a great choice and ever better service always so friendly and nothing was to much to ask. We also ate in the African restaurant opposite the buffet restaurant (can't remember the name) I hate cheese parcels to start and pork for main and both were so tasty! My daughter had Mac n cheese with steak and she loved it. We also are at the fast food place for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there was always a good choice of food. We had room service 1 night and I didn't think there was a great choice, would have liked some smaller bits like pizza or garlic bread and snacky bits instead of big mains. The pool was lovely my daughter loved the slide. There were lots of entertainment for the kids by the pool which was great to watch The arcade was fun my daughter loved going there On one afternoon we came back after a rainy day to find some characters in reception so that was a lovely surprise! Great hotel, wonderful staff and would def return.
